I hate to leave the Bang "flabbergasted" and if "only an idiot" would choose Cutler over Romo, well, I guess I'm that freaking idiot. I do think both Cutler and Romo are "works in progress." I also think that Romo has had better teams backing him than Cutler in his stints with Denver and Chicago. Being on better teams may also account for some of Romo's better statistics over all. I stand by my comment that Cutler is the best quarterback the Bears have had in my lifetime and I think he has a tremendous upside. Yes, I'm going on "potential," not so much past performance. The Punky QB did get a Super Bowl Ring, but the Bears 85 Defense may have been the best defensive unit in the history of the game, and of course Walter Payton was on the team too. McMahon was a very erratic player, he did not have a great arm, and he was quite fragile, still, he was a "winner," he also had that unique leadership mojo. But McMahon ended up on the injured list often. Cutler has really taken a beating the last few years, his stint on the sideline with the knee injury brought a lot of heat, but I think he really was hurt and he didn't think he could play his best. He sat for the team! Still he does seem to be a tough guy, he gets knocked down a lot, he's taken some murderous hits, and and still he gets up and goes for it. If he stays healthy I think he can be phenomenal. Cutler is a spooky talent. His fundamentals are supposed to be screwy, he throws off his back foot, he's unconventional, and he's a gambler. Thinks he can always thread the needle. I think he's got an amazingly strong arm. I do think he is a real deal QB. Romo may be a real deal QB too, but I think Cutler has more upside than Romo. It's just a guess. And Romo for sure is not even top four in Cowboys QB history: Meredith, Staubach, Aikmen, Danny White?

the falcons over the lions is totally possible. i didn't want to think the 49ers could beat them last week (and i don't think they actually did. to lean on the age old sports analogy, the lions beat themselves). though, this week the falcons are a strong team to face. the lions have zero running game with best out for concussions (two this season) and the harrison/brown trade squashed. so, there will be a lot of nobodies running the ball on detroit's side against the atlanta's strong run defense. not going to be pretty.

ultimately, the crowd will be the difference. i'm looking forward to see how many false starts can they provide this week.

of course, i'm going to pull for the lions and say there will not be an upset. i believe in miracles. after all, i'm a spartan fan as well and after last night i think i'm a born again catholic. then again, i only believe the state of michigan gets on miracle a weekend, so it may not happen for the lions. all the same....
